The Ocean Watersport team at Hurawalhi Maldives are delighted to announce that manta rays have found their way back to Lhaviyani Atoll. Over the last couple of weeks we have been sighting manta rays regularly around the marine protection area of Fushivaru (approximately 10 minutes by speedboat from the resort), indicating that our manta season has begun.
With almost daily sightings we’ve been able to show many guests these amazing creatures, with the highlight of the season so far occurring last week, when we were able to snorkel with 15 manta rays that were feeding at the surface for over 20 minutes.
Reaching over 3 meters in size, manta rays have very few predators, and, providing snorkellers are calm and quiet in the water, will often allow people to come very close. Lying very still in the water, snorkellers can often enjoy watching manta rays glide under them as they feed on microscopic plankton, twisting, turning and rolling, almost like a dance for them to enjoy.
Don’t miss your chance to meet them by joining our manta ray search group excursion by speedboat. Alternatively, private trips can be arranged with our team, where you could get to experience these majestic animals on your own custom encounter.
